Privacy notice

How I look after your details.

The short version: I only collect what I need to answer you and train you, I don't sell it, I don't send marketing you haven't asked for, and you can ask me to see or delete it at any time.

Who I am

This website is run by Scott Roberts, trading as Live to Dive, a freelance PADI Course Director based in the south of England. I'm responsible for the personal information you give me through this site, by email, by phone or by message. You can reach me at hello@livetodive.co.uk.

What I collect

  • When you get in touch: your name, email address, your diving level, what you're interested in and anything you choose to tell me in your message. When you use the contact form, your message is saved securely in this website's database and sent to my inbox.
  • If you share your experience: your name, email address, course, when you trained and what you write. Your email is never shown; it's only so I can check with you before anything is published.
  • If you message me on Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp: whatever you send me there, plus the profile details those services share.
  • If you call or text me: your phone number and anything you tell me.
  • If you train with me: the details PADI needs to register and certify you, such as your date of birth, address, certification history and logged dives, and the PADI medical questionnaire. Medical information is especially sensitive, so I only use it to make sure it's safe for you to dive and to meet PADI's training standards.

This website doesn't use analytics, advertising trackers or cookies for visitors. The only cookie is a login cookie for my own admin area.

Why I use it

  • To publish your testimonial, only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • To reply to your enquiry and talk about training. I do this because it's in both our interests to have that conversation, and because it's a step towards an agreement you've asked about.
  • To deliver your course, register and certify you with PADI, and keep the training records PADI standards and my insurers require. This is needed to provide the training you've booked and to meet those obligations.
  • To keep you safe in the water, using your medical information with your consent and only for that purpose.

I won't add you to a mailing list unless you ask to be added, and you can ask to come off it at any time.

Who I share it with

  • PADI, when you train with me, so you can be registered and certified.
  • The partner dive centre where your training takes place, so they can book you in and look after you on site. If you came to me through a partner centre, I may copy them in when I reply so your booking stays with them.
  • The services I use to run things, such as my web host (Hostinguk), where this website and its database run, and my email provider. They store information on my behalf and don't use it for anything else.

I never sell your information. Some of these services may store data outside the UK; where they do, they're expected to protect it to UK standards.

Other services on this site

  • The fonts on this site load from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google's servers when a page opens.
  • The PADI TecRec video only loads from YouTube (in its privacy-enhanced mode) if you press play.
  • Links to Facebook, Instagram, PADI and partner dive centres take you to their sites, which have their own privacy policies.

How long I keep it

If you get in touch but don't go on to train with me, I delete your enquiry within 12 months. If you ask me to remove your testimonial, I take it down straight away. To stop spam, the site briefly counts how often each internet address sends a form; that count isn't stored. If you do train with me, I keep your training records for as long as PADI standards and my insurers require, and then delete them securely.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the information I hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to how I use it, take a copy with you, or withdraw any consent you've given. Just email hello@livetodive.co.uk and I'll respond within a month.

If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, please tell me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If I change how I handle your information, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
